Ex-Kubrick 2: Design
LittleZephyr: Tuesday, May 17th, 2005Sony and Nintendo also give me something to think about.
Sony’s design has never really been it’s strong point when it comes to consoles (Strange considering their pretty laptops, cameras, and even the Playstation Portable). So that tells me one thing:
Don’t do what you can’t do. I’m not a professional designer, and I can’t get away with something like a flash header or pixel fonts. When designing something you must keep it within your range as a designer. No use for making a crazy design if it ends up ugly and unusable. Sony tried to make something edgy and cool, but they ended up with a flying saucer taped to a box with the Spiderman movie font scrawled on the side.
Nintendo sort of shocks with its design for both the Revolution and the GB Micro. It’s sleek, and square, and anything but the purpley GameCube or GBA. It’s sort of the inverse of the Sony idea: Don’t be afraid to take (smart) chances. It comes in different colours. That’s totally cool. Be flexible and original, don’t let previous works discourage you. That’s something I need to do here.
So now. I design something new and wonderful.
